STATEMENT: JusticeMakers Bangladesh gravely concerned over attacked on indigenous people at Bogura

 

Bangladeshi human rights organization the JusticeMakers Bangladesh has expressed deep concern and protest against attacked on ethnic minority indigenous people at Sherpur upazila under Bogura district in Bangladesh.

The rights body simultaneously urged to bring the culprits who were involved with the heinous crime before the book after identifying them with a quick and impartial investigation by judicial body.

JusticeMakers Bangladesh welcomes the decision of the learned Metropolitan Magistrate to acquit four Transgenders in Dhaka.

Human rights organization JusticeMakers Bangladesh has expressed its heartiest welcome for the recent decision of learned Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikari to acquit four transgender who were falsely accused of extortion.

Simultaneously, JusticeMakers Bangladesh demanded immediate and appropriate compensation for the arbitrary arrest and detention of those sexual minority transgender people in Bangladesh whose fundamental human rights were violated.

Shahanur Islam attended the 21st World Summit on Participatory Democracy at Grenoble, France

 

Bangladesh human rights activist and lawyer Advocate Shahanur Islam attend the 21st World Summit on Participatory Democracy held in 7th to 10th December 2022  at Grenoble, France.

More than 600 participants from over 60 countries shared and discussed democratic renewal, climate justice and participatory methodologies at the world summit of cities for democracy.

Law Society of England and Wales Raises Concerns Over Threats to Bangladeshi Lawyer Shahanur Islam

The Law Society of England and Wales, a professional body representing approximately 200,000 solicitors, has expressed deep concerns regarding the ongoing threats and harassment faced by Bangladeshi lawyer Shahanur Islam. On 16 November , in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh, the Law Society called for immediate action to safeguard Mr. Islam and uphold the rule of law.

Shahanur Islam serves as the Secretary General of the Bangladesh Institute of Human Rights and Justice Makers Bangladesh. Throughout his career, he has been an ardent defender of the rights of ethnic, religious, and LGBTI minorities, as well as opposition politicians. Regrettably, he has been a target of multiple threats, intimidation, physical assault, and arrest dating back to 2008.
