Bangladeshi Human Rights Lawyer Shahanur Islam Received Repeated Death Threats!

Shahanur Islam, a prominent human rights lawyer and gay rights campaigner in Bangladesh received repeated death threats SMS over his mobile phone.

Recently on 25th August and 6th September 2022, he received separate two death threats messages along with his wife and kid over his mobile phone. 

On 25th October 2022 around at 10:17 pm BST, Mr. Islam received threats message in English language over his phone from an unidentified number. The message states that if you don’t stop fighting aims to establishment of homo sexual rights in BD, immediately you will be killed along with your family members brutally.

JOINT STATEMENT: BIHR and JusticeMakers Bangladesh extremely concern over the order to refrain from taking classes to the homosexual teacher of Savar Model College.

Human rights organizations BIHR and JusticeMakers Bangladesh have expressed extreme concern and protest over the order not to take classes to a homosexual teacher of Savar Model College.

BIHR and JusticeMakers Bangladesh believe that because of being a teacher of  homosexual nature, refrain him from taking classes is a clear violation of the Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, due to students protest patronized by the homophobic people.

On 28 and 29 August 2022, the news published in various electronic and print media revealed that the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) has ordered Ramzan Ali, a homosexual teacher, to refrain from taking classes due to continued students' agitation in Savar Model College.

JusticeMakers Bangladesh concerns over the arrest of lesbian girl in Meherpur

The human rights organization JusticeMakers Bangladesh has expressed deep concern and anger over the filling false and fabricated case of kidnapping against a sexual minority lesbian girl and sent to her to jail custody in Meherpur to prevent homosexuality.

At the same time, JusticeMakers Bangladesh has strongly demanded that the all culprits involved in the incident to be given exemplary punishment after investigated quickly and impartially.

According to the news published in the online newspaper Deshdarpan.com on 30 June 2022 AD, the mother of one lesbian girl filed a kidnapping case in the name of one lesbian girl to prevent the homosexuality of two girls in Meherpur. Mujibnagar Police Station arrested a young lesbian girls named Tanya Khatun (21) in this incident last Wednesday (June 29). The detained girl is the daughter of Mubarak Ali of Gaurinagar village of Mujibnagar upazila. Later she was sent to jail custody through the court.

একই সাথে উক্ত ঘটনার দ্রুত ও নিরপেক্ষ তদন্তপূর্বক জড়িত অপরাধীকে বিচারে দৃষ্ঠান্তমূলক শাস্তি প্রদানের জোড় দাবী জানিয়েছে জাস্টিসমেকার্স বাংলাদেশ ।

 

গত ৩০ জুন ২০২২ খ্রীষ্টাব্দ তারিখে অনলাইন পত্রিকা দেশদর্পণ ডট কম এ প্রকাশিত খবর অনুযায়ী যানা যায় যে, মেহেরপুরে দুই তরুনীর সমকামীতা ঠেকাতে এক তরুনীর নামে অপহরণ মামলা করেছে অপর এক তরুনীর মা। এ ঘটনায় গত বুধবার (২৯ জুন) তানিয়া খাতুন (২১) নামের এক তরুনীকে আটক করেছে মুজিবনগর থানা পুলিশ। আটক ওই তরুনী মুজিবনগর উপজেলার গৌরীনগর গ্রামের মুবারক আলীর মেয়ে। পরে আদালতের মাধ্যমে তাকে জেল হাজতে পাঠানো হয়েছে।

নারায়নগঞ্জে সিটি কাউন্সেলরের নির্দেশে যৌন সংখ্যালঘু সমকামী হিজরা সম্প্রদায়ের দুই ব্যক্তিকে নির্যাতন ও এক ব্যক্তিকে তুলে নিয়ে যাওয়ার ঘটনায় মানবাধিকার প্রতিষ্ঠান বাংলাদেশ ইনস্টিটিউট অব হিউম্যান রাইটস (বিআইএইচআর) এবং জাস্টিসমেকার্স বাংলাদেশের গভীর উদ্বেগ প্রকাশ করেছে।

একই সাথে উক্ত ঘটনার সাথে জড়িত সকল অপরাধীকে দ্রুত চিহ্নিত করে গ্রেফতার পূর্বক দায়ীদের দৃষ্ঠান্তমূলক শাস্তি প্রদানের জোড় দাবী জানিয়েছে বিআইএইচআর এবং জাস্টিসমেকার্স বাংলাদেশ ।

গতকাল ৩০ মে ২০২২ খ্রীষ্টাব্দ সকাল নারায়নগঞ্জ ডট কমে প্রকাশিত খবর আনুযায়ী জানা যায় যে, নারায়ণগঞ্জের বন্দরে টাকা কালেকশন নিয়ে হিজড়া সুমি ও সোহানা নামে দুইজনকে পিটিয়ে উর্মী নামে এক হিজড়াকে ২০নং ওয়ার্ড কাউন্সিলর শাহেনশাহ নির্দেশে তুলে নিয়ে যাওয়ার অভিযোগ উঠেছে। সোমবার ৩০মে সকালে বন্দর আমিন আবাসিক এলাকায় এ ঘটনা ঘটে।
